‘Meraki’ in All That You Do

Want to live a more intentional and impactful life? Wish to devote complete energy and focus and become more creative in the activity at hand? Then knitting the philosophy of Meraki into everything you do will truly enrich your life.

Meraki (may-rah-kee) is a Greek word that is often used to describe putting yourself — your soul — into whatever you are doing. In simple, it is investing 100 percent of yourself in all that you do, leaving a part of your being into it. Doing something with much love, attention and passion helps you feel good and energized.

For instance, you bake a cake with love, you grow a garden with patience and effort, and you write an article by contributing your thoughts to it. This piece of cake, the flowers in your garden and the publication are the fruits of your dedication and passion. You are the chef, artist and sculptor of that you create and doing so gives you a sense of joy and pride each time.

When you do something with Meraki, you invest a bit of your being in that thing. Meraki invites us to meet life and engage attentively in every moment. You can inculcate Meraki in even the simple tasks of life like cooking a meal for your family, making love to your partner, capturing a photo or painting a picture.

Doing things with absolute devotion, and continuous attention makes you a ‘Meraklis’, a person who loves life and lives each moment to the fullest. You strive to do something better and give your best shot at everything, be it even the smallest chores of making your own coffee or organizing your space.

Embracing the philosophy of Meraki is your way to discover your inner purpose in life and attune to your being. Putting your heart into all that you do gives you a distinctive feel. Unfortunately, for many, the workplace is not their place of Meraki. Their occupation is not their passion, and they resentfully keep dragging themselves to work each day. This is what leads to a burnout situation. Though finding your Meraki in a 9-to-5 job may not always be possible, you can think about what best you can give and invest your full attention to what you are doing. Discovering meaning and happiness even in the most difficult task will help you give your best.

You can also strive to find Meraki in other areas of your life – hobbies and interests or starting your own business or passion project — where you can consciously and willfully devote yourself to something that fuels your existence. This is what makes you feel truly alive and satisfies your being.

Committing to living life to the fullest and putting your heart and soul into all that you do will let you live a Meraki life. Along life’s journey let us also help others to awaken their being by adopting a Meraki lifestyle.
